Wyoming GOP Senator Introduces Discussion Draft to Weaken Endangered Species Act

Today Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) introduced a bill that would undermine one of America’s bedrock wildlife conservation laws, the Endangered Species Act. While the Act requires the best available science to be used in wildlife protection decisions, Senator Barrasso’s bill would subject wildlife protection decisions to political interference.

Save Florida Panthers by Reducing Vehicle Strikes

Florida panthers are an endangered species residing primarily in southwestern Florida. In 2016, 42 panthers died in the wild, mainly from vehicle-related incidents. This is especially devastating news as the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission estimates there are, at best, 180 panthers remaining in the wild. Here’s how you can help reduce the volume of vehicle-related panther deaths.

Overwhelming Support for the Endangered Species Act

Four hundred and twenty-five national, state, and local conservation groups sent a letter to the Senate and House leadership Thursday demonstrating their overwhelming support for the Endangered Species Act. Referencing the “unprecedented threat” faced by the Act in Congress, the groups strongly opposed any weakening of the Act under the guise of efforts to “modernize” or “reform” the Act. The groups—at least one from each of the 50 states—indicated that any “efforts to rewrite this law would prove disastrous for imperiled wildlife and should be strongly opposed.”
